Average Life of a Allison 1000???

I was wondering on average how many miles people were getting out of there transmissions? I just turned 100,000 miles on my 2003 and was thinking of installing a aftermarket converter and deep pan, or should i just buy a new aftermarket unit???

Any info you guys have will be appreciated

As long as you dont have alot of mods the trans should last several hundread thousand miles. Even if you often pull heavy loads. Therefore it would be worth installing a deep pan and converter. However, if your truck has alot of mods with over 100hp I'd look at getting a after market unit such as Suncoast

i know a guy that has 317,000 miles on a stock 01'. and when he bought it, it had 60,000 on it and ever since then he has pulled a fifth wheel trailer with it. moderate to very heavy loads. services the tranny regulary. shifts likes its brand new. uses synthetic oil also.

Synthetic really helps alot. If you use the right fluid, Allison actually recommends 150K fluid service intervals! Make sure it meets TES-295. Amsoil Torque Drive is one of those fluids.

Other than that, seems stock trucks hauling heavy loads last longer. See, transmission shifts and pressures are regulated by engine load (torque demand) and throttle position, as well as speed. Towing heavy with a stock truck means you have alot of pressure for your shifts, meaning less wear, less heat, less damage. Now, add extra power and all that goes out the window.

so how long do you think you could get out of that transmission with 317,000 on it if he was to put a edge juice with attitude, afe cold air intake and 4" exhaust. mostly driving normal without a load behind it most of the time, and occaisonally towing a load, pulling a sled 1 or 2 times a year, and just playin ever once in awhile on the street with it.

3 miles or 300k miles if it starts to slip your done. It doesn't take much. You are going to be driving the truck pretty hard by the sounds of it, not meaning abuse, but when you give it power you are going to give it a bunch. I think you will be needing to do a transmission sooner than you like. Nice thing is Suncoast's stage 5 is warranted for 2 years, unlimited miles, unlimited HP. Slap that bad boy in there and give er hell!

i know my stocker didn't hold up very good but then again i can't blame it,adding an extra 300hp really puts the squeeze to them,but i'll say this the allison tranny is a very impsessive transmission and it will take a beating before it gives up.

I agree they are great transmissions. Problem is once they go, they are gone. Just be nice to it until you can upgrade it. There are a few options if you are on a budget and are willing to do some of the upgrades yourself.

enlighten me on these upgrades,i always love to save some money.yes i would do the work myself if i can save some cash.i'll put it this way i have done it once before on a 03 1500 silverado.

Well, you can get the stage IV kit, which is a complete rebuild kit with upgraded frictions and steels, converter, and I include a free rebuild manual.
