Exclamation intake heater malfunction and glow plug codes!q

I have an 02 gmc duramax, federal emissions. I have been chasing the SES light for a while now, it has to do with the intake heater and the glow plugs. I changed both relays with the napa ones that I got the part number to off here. The problem is still happening and the same codes are being thrown. I think it might have had a program in it before I bought it and the owner took the monitor out but never flashed it back to stock. I am thinking the program did something to the intake heater, maybe shut it off? Therefore making the glow plug code go off since it is all one circuit. I had a computer plugged onto the truck and when the key was turned on it said the glow plugs were on but no power to them. I am very confused and don't know if I need to turn the intake heater back on and that will fix the prob or what. Also after a long trip it seems to turn over more to start. The guy also replaced some glow plugs before I bought it

Do these trucks have intake heaters? I know for sure the cummins have the intake heater but thought the duramax only had the glow plugs...correct me if im wrong.

Yes they do, I have an 02 and it has been throwing the p0540, intake air heater circuit code for a while now. There is a thread on here showing the location. There is a large fuse under the front of the fuse housing cover in the engine compartment. It is a 175 amp fuse. There is also a relay on top of the engine somewhere under the 6.6 plastic cover. My fuse was ok so I suspect the relay or the heater itself. Since it doesn't start hard it has not been a big priority for me. Search error code p0540.

Do you even need the plugs to work if your grid heater is operational?

I would think the glow plugs would be more important then the air heater but I really don't know.

New to Dmax, but I only made that assumption because the cummins runs just the grid heater and no glow plugs...

dmax's don't have a grid heater like the cummins. The intake air heater is just a probe that screws in the intake pipe.
