what does service 4 wheel drive light mean

its my grandpas truck he called the other day asking me if i could look at his truck the service 4x4 light came on. Its and 02 with around 150k on it with the lb7. Just looking for a few places to start. thanks

switch on the transfer case, electic motor, 4wd module. Get it scanned first to see what codes shes throwin

encoder motor sensor

start with replacing the encoder motor sensor, I ordered from rock auto around $40, most common fix solved problem
