Problems with 2001-2002 Allison transmissions?

I'm looking at a 2002 model with about 42k miles. It looks to be in great shape.

My mechanic (who owns the same vehicle in an 03) told me that the 01-02 Allison's are "notorious" for having problems.

I know the injectors can be a pain to replace, but should last about 100k at least. But has anyone know of any problems specific to the 01 and 02? It's scaring me out of an otherwise great looking deal.

Thanks

I have an 02. No problems till 165,000 miles when I got big tunes and torched the converter. Otherwise, the NSBU switches are shit if not updated, but thats not a big deal, and not really just an 01-02 problem.

Injectors may not last 100k or even close to it. Some guys fail them at 30k and others at 200k.

I wouldn't worry about the trans, if you do have to rebuild it. Get a performance build from an Allison Guru, your traditional transmission guy won't be the right guy for this build. If you get a performance build it'll last you and do whatever you need it to do.

Got 271K+ on mine, with no issues. Transfer case can have a pump rub problem but Merchant Auto has a fix for that. You will need to get good, as clean as possible fuel to your injectors so a lift pump and/or Nicktane adapter plus additive in every tank will help them. It the price is right, go for.

A buddy I know has on 02 CC/SB. All he has done with it is put an intake and the diablo sport 40hp tune. Granted hes older and doesn't care about all the performance stuff. He has never had injector issues, not even with the stocks one, he told me that at 100,000 they had a recall on the injectors and got his local dealer to replace them for free. Now he has around 260,000 miles on it and still no problems at all. Now that brings me to this point, depending on what you plan on doing with the truck will determine what will last and how long, which that goes with just about any vehicle. Either way, it seems to be a good buy as long as it checks out.
