03 lb7 cut out and wont start

just recently bought this truck and it does have a lot of miles being just shy of 290k but ran perfect for about a week, only problem i did have was what seemed to be a major boost leak at about full power it would spudder and barely move..
about 3 days ago it cut out like it ran out of gas, but didnt completely die, did it 2 more times then it did completely die...i checked the battery terminals and one was pretty loose so i tightened it up, the truck fired right up and seemed to be running good..next morning i started it up, fired right up i was in cruise control for about 5 miles and all the sudden i saw the rpms drop and it just died...now it will not start back up, it has fuel but i havnt checked the pressure and it cranks over solid just makes no attempt to fire
im thinking injection pump but any other ideas?? any help would be appreciated neener

Has the check engine light come on at all and if so what are the codes. You should also try to reprime the fuel filter or just replace it to rule that out.

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Change the fuel filter and reprime the system.

fresh filter and it did start and ran good for a while i let it idle, then out of nowhere it cut out again..if i gave it gas i could keep it running but not getting any power to move the truck then finally it just died again..im starting to think might be an electrical issue

Now try to prime the filter again. Prime it good. It should restart. My guess is you need to rebuild your filter head. Meaning put in all new orings. The kit is pretty cheap on Merchant Automotives website.

The fuel pump sucks like a straw from the motor on these trucks. It doesnt have a fuel pump in the tank that pumps positive pressure. So if your filter head is leaking air into it, because of bad seals, your truck will do exactly as you described. It will run when you prime it, then slowly start sucking air. While reving it your essentially sucking harder... so it stays running till you let off.

You can rebuild the filter head, and get a Lift Pump like an AirDog to povide positive pressre in the system. If you have a 04.5 and newer truck you can just get a cheaper pump without filters like the Raptor. But if you own a 01-04 LB7 you should look into a AirDog with filters. It will make your injectors last a lot longer.

i would start with the fuel filter head rebuild kit and get the ss bleeder screw also so the plastic one doesnt break on you. That is the cheapest place to start. Also did you ever get the code that the truck put out the first time?

Everything is pointing at that filter head. You can rebuild it and get a lift pump to help with better filtration like 01 D_Max said or you can even get the lift pump and delete the filter head not having to ever worry about this happening again.
If you have any questions let me know.
