Looking to buy 01 Duramax opinions please

Well like the tittle says I am looking into buying an 01 Duramax

here is the catch the truck has been sitting for about 8 months needs tires batteries interior is rough engine bay looks good for it sitting for 8 months.

the guy wants 2k for it he said it was running before so no real history on it if I were to buy this truck what would be the first things to do cause I dont think I want to just put batteries in it and just try to start it ?

Also if the engine is shot or any other problems/worst case scenerio drop used engine in for 4-5k ends up being a 7k truck guess what im asking is this a decent buy or pass up on the money pit?

my guess is that it needs more than tires and batteries, sounds like you are willing to put in the work so it may turn out to be a good deal in the long run. I would put fresh diesel in it, see if it can hold prime after changing the oil and then see what happens.

Would you suggest changing all fluids?
should I drop the tank and clean it out?/does diesel go bad after sitting for a while?
and if it does go bad how to i go about getting rid of all the bad diesel in the lines?
anything else i should look at?

Yes, change everything you can. And yes, diesel fuel degrades over time. You mine have to drop the tank and drain the lines. Sounds like a good deal if it will run.

Id buy it. Worse case find a LLY motor and do a swap. Ive seen them go for around 2-3k on Craigslist near by me.

How many miles?

got about 130k on the odemetor and how do you do a swap thought it could only be done if your lb7 was 03-04

Worst case, part the truck and make 2k back easily, a rolling chassies is easily worth over 2k, doors, bed tail gate, seats, hood, easily 2k in parts easily more then that.
