The 01-02 trucks didnt have the stepper motor issues in the gauge clusters like the 03 up trucks did. My guess is the sending unit as well.

SENSOR KIT. Fuel Tank Meter/Pump. CK2,3 FUEL TANK SENDER (LB7/6.6-1);. 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 4WD 2500 HD Crew Cab # 89060634, SK1054

$122 at Nally GM Parts for just the sensor/sending unit in the tank.

Most shops replace the entire unit and won's service just the sensor. I'm embarrassed to say the shop I used charged $650 for the entire unit and 3.6 hours labor.
