Leaking Oil Out Of The Exhaust

I have a 01 Duramax, it started to leak oil out of the PVC and the exhaust. I just replaced the turbo, through it may fix the problem because there was oil in the intake side of the turbo , so now I am guessing a cracked piston or a blowing injector cup. It runs a little rough and blows lots of white smoke. Any tips on finding out what is wrong without starting to dig into the engine.

Is your oil over full? (Making oil?)

You can run a compression test to know if you eff'd a piston. If youre making oil and its coming out its likely injectors

Another test you may want to attempt is a balance rate test. If you have a craked piston or bad injectors, that'll tell you as well as a compression test like stated above.

No it is not making oil. I have a stack and there is a drain hole in the exhaust. The oil is running pretty quickly. I just changed the oil when I put the new turbo in it, and the level is now low(after running for less then five minutes). I know that there are two DTCs, one is a cylinder misfire and all the codes are on #6. I can to a balance rate test quickly, but how is the best was to a compression test.

Rates should be +/-4 in park.

Here is something to try. Pull the oil fill cap off and fire up the truck. If you have a holed/cracked piston you should have some or a lot of blow-by coming out of the filler cap.
