need for exhaust

I dont feel that this is a dumb question....but some may. I am wondering if I need a 4" exhaust. My EGTs are fairly low already. I am running a six gun and at 55 MPH my EGT is 500 degrees. At 65 MPH it is just over 600 degrees. Now it may flucuate depending on terrain, but once I am cruising, thats where it stays. Will the exhaust help the engine breath and getter better mileage, or is it mostly to blow off heat and lower EGTs? I was dead set on getting a 4", but now I am trying to think it through.

You will see a mileage increase but its minimal. But it will help lower your egt's more.

Its one of the best upgrades to do.

how did I know that Tyler would be one of the first to come to the rescue.....lol. If I can keep my foot out of the throttle, I was getting about 2 MPG more since I installed th esix gun, which puts me at a whopping 18.5.

Yes the exhaust wouldn't do much more for mileage. It just helps the truck run more effiecient.

If you dont want to do a 4" i would remove the muffler and cat. That will increase flow more also.
