Ok i may be completely retarded and to be honest ive never payed any attention to this but, today driving through town i shifted it down into 3rd, idk why and goin 35-40 it rides at 2500pm and increases as i go faster and wont shift down... is this because im in 3rd and theres nowhere else to shift? cuz i know on my old gasser with 35s didnt do that and i drove in 3rd all the time with it... guess i could say im confused, i swore ive driven my dmax in 3rd around town before but it doesnt rev that high... anyone???

I am new to Diesels
the allison is different....it is really third gear...that is why it doesnt shift. if you want to go to only 4th gear, put in D and hold in the button on the end of the shifter....you will see a light with D and a line through it. I dont know why you would shift it into third unless you were towing heavy...if you want a little more power in town just put it in tow/haul...the rpms will be a little higher and your tranny temps will stay down since your torque converter is locked.

Alright thanks, yea i was really just curious, i never looked into it, i was just messing around and was shocked by the rpm increase, so i guess 3rd IS 3rd haha, i drove my yukon in (3) not (D)) and it was normal, so i was just curious if the duramax was the same or not, obviously it is not, but thank you for the response.
