EGR cooler

I took the EGR off because I'm about to change injectors. The EGR is full if soot and I'm wanting to clean it.

Any recommendations on how to clean it?

This is posted in the LB7 section so I assume you have a Cali emissions lb7?

Just delete it.

Yes, I am from California. As much as I would like to, and after all the trouble I went through to remove the EGR, I would live to delete it. But here in California, we do have emissions test's here. So, no, I'm not going to delete the EGR. Ok, I will take that little booger over to the radiator shop or machine shop tomorrow and have it cleaned.

Lots and lots of brake cleaner. And make sure you clean it over something you don't care about. We dumped ours in some gravel in the driveway over a year ago. It's still stained

I'm from California and I just put a blocker plate in. As far as I've been told smog is mainly visual.

The EGR was virtually plugged. I have to guess that with all that soot in the cooler, that's partially why I my truck would smoke heavily. Anyway, I took the cooler to the radiator shop to have it hot tanked. Let me stand corrected on California and emissions test. There are areas of California that do not require bi annual testing. There is a visual and they also look at the tailpipe after a rev and a count of 3 to determine if the diesel smokes too much.
