use high idle, I ran my truck all night a few times and it only burns like a 16th of a tank of fuel. Do you hot shot or something? I know a lot of hotshotters sleep in there trucks up north..
was a operator for 3 years now getting into well testing with operating on the side that's why i was asking cause if i had a call out i don't have time for the truck to warm up or god forbid it doesn't want to start

Might want to look into a synthetic 5w40 oil to run when it's that cold too. It'll help with cold starts should you ever need to plus a little better fuel mileage..but i'd concur on the high idle or an engine heater like the before mentioned webasto or anything similar for sure if you cant plug in.

I don't know if LB7s had the tranny problems like the LBZs have. In canada, where temps would routinely dip below -40°, there was a defect with a tranny cooler line (i think near the cooler). In the end, it would lead to poor lubrication while in high idle (only in PARK, iirc). If that's the case with 5 spds, I'd keep a pair of wheel chocks, and put it in NEUTRAL while high-idling overnight. Supposedly the ATF was able to flow in N better than P. Wouldn't use your parking brake at that temp, because the cable has a tendency to freeze. And yes, bite the bullet and use high idle overnight, it will save your motor. Don't bother with remote start set to fire it up every couple hours, that's a lot of work on your starter over time, and I know my truck acts like it is ice cold even after 2 hours of shut off time.

This all sounds similar to when I worked in Minnesota for a couple of years. The boss has a 6.0L PS and when it dropped below 0, that thing did not get turned off. Ran for 35 days straight. You could turn it off, and within 10 minutes, it would not start.
I live in a slightly warmer climate now, Michigan, and have my Duramax so I haven't really considered it an issue.
I use the winter front and plug it in for at least a couple of hours in the morning when I am at home and on my dime. While at work, it is plugged from the time I walk in to the time I go home. Usually 8-12 hours depending on the day. From what I am reading, I am definitely spoiled on working at a factory.
I concur with staying away from the remote start on the timer. Just seems like a lot of extra wear on the parts.
Where can I get the hight idle kit?
Anyway, good luck up there. Keep warm, both you and the truck.

Costs $10 with wire, switch and pin connector. OB1 suggests using a wire behind the brake pedal to tap into, rather than const. 12v. This way, you have no switch, all you do is hit CC. Ask him for details on his alternative.
