Idling question

so i have the habit of idling my vehicles alot in the winter and my older brother (heavy duty mechanic) put high idle on my truck for me and told me that i need to use it ever time i idle it even if its for 5 minutes so my question is if i let it idle over night do i really need to use high idle or will normal be okay my oil press on low idle is around 200kpa and is 400 on high idle

when it goes down to below -40 at night i dont shut my vehicles off they can idle till it warms up and i'm not going to be kissing my brothers ass to try and get him to come over with service truck to boost and put a torch under her after hes told me to idle it if its colder then -30

use your high idle. why dont you just plug it in though? Carbon build up in the turbo is not good. Its just hard on the motor. How long do you idle?

yes block heaters are meant for that unless you independently wealthy to afford the fuel
may i also suggest a oilpan heater? might be a good way to go (in addition to the block heater) honda and volkswagen used to use them

thats a nice suggestion but there comes days when my truck is sitting in a field over night no power in parking lot and you get a call at 3 in the morning to go and its just get outta bed pack up and go to work.

FYI not trying to be arogant but you guys have it easy most of you are posting from southern areas... its not uncommon for me to be in North West Territories north of Inuvik look on a map where that is my old truck the temp in the mirror for most of January and February would just read O-R
