Engine transplant

Hey everyone ; I've got an 03 2500 I bought for a project but I've decided that there is too much work involved as the truck suffered too much abuse in it's short life . In order to recover some of my money I will probably part it out , but have some questions for the experts on this forum . The odometer shows only 65000 miles & I don't doubt this reading however the motor is not the original and I was wondering if there is a way to verify the true mileage on the engine . Not very computer/ECM savvy so not sure if any readings would be same as odometer . Along a different line If I had serial # from engine could this be traced back to original truck ? If so I could go to DMV and get record of mileage when donor truck was written off. I know the motor came from a local wrecking yard as a low mileage unit but the exact mileage was not recorded and now I don't know how to advertise it fairly .

Thanks Phil , but I 've already approached the NNYUWDF & we couldn't agree on a reasonable price .

Your mileage and hours are kept by the gauge cluster. With out the origional gauge cluster you have no way of knowing the actual mileage.

Howzabout...anybody tell me where the engine serial # is on a Duramax ? Hopefully armed with that information I can get dealer service records and DMV info on original owner and date and mileage when truck was sold for salvage . Anybody else out there had any luck trying to pursue these avenues ?

You could just sell the whole thing to me and then you would not have to do any research.

I have seen several top kicks with this very same problem. The dealer can get the true millage on those trucks I couldn't tell you if they could on ours. Give it a shot it couldn't hurt. Good Luck

Custom 8726 : Your Idea for my truck is exactly what I would like to see happen . True hotrodding at it's best . Take a modern drivetrain & put it some vintage iron , gaining torque and doubling (at least) fuel mileage . Let's get her done .
