My friend has a 01 8.1 with a allison and he plows snow with it. A few years ago we where doing a parking lot and his was doing the same thing as yours. When you went from Park to drive it would go to park 1-2-3 then drive. Finally he quit shifting all together.

All the shifting is electrical. The actuator thats connected to the transmission probably went bed. Its a dealer item. Id have to say you can do it on your own but might want to take it to the shop to get a positive diagnosis. I wouldnt wait to long or you could end up needing a tow.

Yep thats what my buddys did! From what your describing im 99.9% positive. Id take it to a trans shop or the dealer ship. My buddy that owned the truck is a GM tech and he fixed it himself. Ill ask him tomorrow what you have to do to fix it.

all is good now. i unplugged my edge and told it for a ride. shut the truck down and started back up and everything was back to normal except for the check engine light. of course everything works fine after i go to the dealer and set up an appointment with the dealership.
