straight pipe exhaust

I have an 03 duramax and was wondering if its okay to replace the stock muffler with a piece of pipe. I plan on getting a turbo back kit, 5 inch, t304 ss from mbrp but just wanna see how much better it performs than stock just by replacing the muffler with a straight pipe. Is it harmful to not have any kind of muffler to produce some back pressure?

sounds good, but i had heard that it may allow the turbo to spin too fast causing melt down. thats what i was concerned about, especially since i work it hard
