trans fluid & filter change ?

bought this truck used and its got 120,000 should i change the fluid or not ? dont know any thing about it . always heard don't change trans fluid with high miles on it if you don't know if its ever been changed before ? gonna change the fuel filter too , puttin a delco filter back in , right ?

The allison needs the pan drained and spin on filter changed every 15000-20000 miles. I do mine with every other oil change. The internal filter is supposed to be changed at 100000 miles. You are right the delco filter is the best fuel filter and get an actual allsion tranny filter.

so you think it will be okay to go ahead and change the fluid and both filters ? how much and what kind of fluid (name brand) ?

Yes, i don't see a problem with it. For the pan and filter it is supposed to take 7.4 qts., but it will probabaly take a full 8 qts. I use amsoil synthetic in mine.

Spin ons are cheap,just do it,you'll save on maintenance,maybe an expensive a$$ repair bill in the future too.Lots of info here on how to service things,not hard task at all..

Hmmm thats a tuff one. I hear the same as you. My dad has been a auto tech for 30 years and has owned his own large auto buisness for 15. He always told me not to touch the trans fluid if theres alot of miles on or has never been touched. He says once all the tarnishes and tuf start going throught the trans you dont want to mess with them. I would definatly atleast change the spin on filter and I personally only use delco filters.

If you did decide to change it Id add a quart of lucas trans additice. It will thickin the fluid up and help any leaks or sludge.

I'd feel much better if i knew it had been changed before ! the truck came from out of state so calling the P.O. would be a pain ! the trans don't slip and ive never seen it run hot , just wanna freshin everything up beings i don't know anything about the truck ! THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS

i was thinking about changing both filters myself.. to see whats in there i bought my truck with 32K and i have about 45k now. about a year later. i was wondering if anyone could give me a brief run down on what i'm looking forward to.. any thing i should know before jumping into something like this. thanks.

04" lb7 CC 4x4 black cuz it gets better MPGs. PPE programmer, PPE valve, and air box mod. and plugged all the right holes in the intake. nice size ding and dents on the side to help with areodynamics.. like the golf ball effect.
