Range Shift Inhibited... WTF!?!?!

Pulled into my parking spot, and went to shift into reverse to straighten up a bit. Console started flashing "Range Shift Inhibited" and now won't go into neutral or park, just reverse and drive gears.

Any ideas on what caused this and what it will take to fix it?

NSBU switch on the transmission. Very common problem for that year allison. Make sure you get the actual "allison" replacement part because they have redesigned it.

Thanks. How hard is it to swap that switch out? I'll run by the local dealer tomorrow and see if they have one in stock.

Will they know what I'm talking about if I say "I need an NSBU Switch for an 03 allison."?

neutral safety back-up switch. Havent done one on an Allsion but have done thousand on jeep cherokees and they are similar in design. Shouldn't be too hard. Maybe ask a tech at the stealership you go to. Some can be VERY helpful but others..... GoodLuck!

I haven't done one myself, but i think the hardest part is lining it up right. It has slotted holes so you may have to make a couple adjustments to get it right.

had same thing happen the day after i bought my 03, except mine just wouldnt go in reverse. got it fixed free tho and hasnt happened since
