01-04.5 LB7 Duramax PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect
I stumbled upon this forum while doing a search on a 2003 Seirra 2500HD that I am looking into. It has the 6.6L LB7 with the 5 speed Alison (as is stock with this model). It just clicked over to 214000 K. Fully loaded, leatherr interior, 5 stage chip, Stock injectors (never replaced).
I understand that the LB7 has had some issues as quoted from BigRedChevy.
The seller wants 18,000 (CND) for it.

The LBZ duramax (2006-2007 classic) has not had any major problems to speak of and is probably the one i would be looking at. They were rated at 360 HP.
well, if its at a dealership, have them test the flow rates for the injectors. If they all show good, buy it! I would probably invest in an aftermarket inline fuel filter setup that will work in conjunction with the stock filter. That'd keep any and all gunk away from those picky injectors. That would be cheap insurance that saves you several thousand dollars versus replacing them once. Something that filters down to like 3-5 microns would probably do the trick.

Its a privite sale so checking the flow rate isnt possible. The truch shifts good and doesnt blow any smoke... I remember from a 1980 VW Deisel rabbit I had years ago when the injectors start to go it lost power and blew smoke like crazy, I imagine the Duramax would do the same?
He has a log book (along with recipts) for the fluid changes. It shifts great and has no shortage of power (makes the 5.7L hemi I am use to look like a tinker toy)
I heard that the Universal joints on the drive shaft in 03 were sealed (not greasable) is this a worry?
given that it is a privite sale what else should I be aware of?
I just re-read your first post, you said 214000 K, as in KM? If thats the case, then the injectors are still covered under GM's injector warrany (I believe I read 320,000 KM's? about the same as 200,000 miles right?), and you should be fine.
As for the U-joints... I'm not sure. But they're easy as heck to replace if one does go bad. So that shouldn't be a big deal, especially not a deciding factor. That sounds like a heck of a deal to me!! I would probably buy it, like now, before someone else gets it at that price. Thats about what it books for in the US, not to mention Canada!
actually 320,000km, converts to 198,838.xxx miles, so its roughly the same. But all that aside I can't believe someone else hasn't put in their opinion here, but I think its a pretty good deal. Since the value of the us dollar sucks, its not as good of a deal as it used to be, but if everything checks out, I wouldn't be scared of it.

I checked with a friend at the GM Dealer, and I guess it isn't technically a warranty but a special clause. If the injectors "fail" due to a certain circumstance they would be replaced, but if they fail it doesn't automatically mean they will be covered.
He did say that $18,000 was a good deal for the truck, he actually stated that that would be around the price they would pay assuming it was in good shape, He told me to bring it in and make a few thousand :P
Anyway, I just put a deposit on it and should be driving next week.
