Stock transmission

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I was wondering if my 03 LB7 stock transmission could hold up to my new ppe economy 120hp tuner? I have an air intake and a 4in straight pipe so far and transmission upgrades are pretty spendy for me now.

It probably would, but i would leave it on the 90 hp setting to be safe. If you were going to drive like granny you would be ok on the 120, but i have never been able to do that. The stock allison is good for about 90 hp over stock and the wheels. The PPE is rated at the cranks so you would just be a little over the 90 hp limit with it turned all the way up.

Welcome to the site!!!

Thanks for the info, when i get it, do i need to let the transmission learn it by driving on the setting for awhile?

Lots of stop and go driving will help to learn the tranny a little faster. You can also reset taps with the PPE which will put the trans into a fast learn.

It ure doesn't hurt to let the trans get the feel for it,then after 100 or so miles, let er rip..

if u pump that throttle too hard on 120hp setting, you can run it inot limp mode which i think derates the engine im not sure but many who have had this happen usually have to take it in (some one correct me im not sure if this is true)

If you shut the truck off for a couple minutes it will usually reset itself. There is also two different limp modes, one for the engine that cuts the power back and gives you a 2000 RPM rev limiter and one for the tranney that locks you in 3rd gear no downshifting or up.

I just rebuilt a 5 speed Allison transmission this week that the customer was running the PPE on 110HP setting for a long time, truck had 85k miles(not sure how many with tuners, but he said at least a year).

The clutches looked very good, but the fluid showed signs of the converter being hurt. I'd say you should be fine, but a lot depends on driving style.
