2003 3500 dually...white smoke and tranny probs.

My buddy has a 2003 3500 dually. got about 110,000 miles with a 6inch rcd kit and 35's. I myself am a mechanic, suspension and basic motorwork. I dont know too much about diesels!! My question is when you step on the gas the rpm's shoot to 3300 rpm and the truck barely moves and is blowing tons of white smoke. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions???? I personally think its the transmission but then again its a complex motor and tranny!!! help..........

could it be the torque converter???

Welcome to the Forum!

Ya I agree its probably injectors. When you say barely moves is it like the trans is slipping or the motor is sluggish?

The injectors are know to go in these. Usually the injector leaks causing the smoke. Check the oil for diesel fuel (Usually thin and over full). If you have a older scanner it might not ommunicate with the comp. Heres the electric specs of the injectors. You can check them individually with a multi meter to see which one is bad.

Im in the same boat as you. My dad owns a auto repair buisness and neither he or I know alot about diesels. Iwent to a class on the dmax motor and electronics. Heres a page from the book with the specs.

Hey TowMaster, good info, thanks fer the specs,I always wondered about how I could test the continuity w/my meter,it's an analog one and I like it.Think it'll work the same,I just know the digital ones go haywire when the batteries go down,my ol analog meter stays in my glove comp all the time.....
