Transfercase Leak Due To . . .

I have a 02' 2500 with 80k miles. Last wednesday, I noticed a two inch stain on the ground underneath my rear differential. After a closer inspection of the diff. I noticed the fuild dripping was blue . . . transfercase fluid. Was unable to find a leak, so I got on the internet and discoverd that 01-07 2500 / 3500 4x4 trucks may have a problem with a internal pump pushing a pin size hole in the rear portion of the transfercase.

Took the truck to the dealer and $1054 later they replaced the rear case with the updated transfercase rear housing.
This problem seemed pretty prevalent through my internet search, so I called GM to see if they would offer finacial assistance or stand behind their product. I was informed that GM would not provide assistance since the truck had "too many miles" ???? 80K??

I am just curious how many of you guys have had this problem? Most of the trucks seemed to have this problem around 80k miles.

I love our GM trucks but I think a 40-60k truck should last longer than 80K without major problems.

I never had the problem but i installed a kit sold by Merchant automotive (GMDieseltech.com) that will stop it from ever happening in both trucks. Its a simple fix to a bad 99 cent clip that GM uses that causes all the problems!
