Dashboard Is Flashing Off And On

This is not really drivetrain related, but yet not exactly 911 so sorry if its out of place.

My girlfriend calls me today to tell me that once again she hates the EDGE chip and wants it out. We have had problems with it before, but EDGE sent me a brand new one so I don't think this one is bad and causing my problem.

From day one my dash lights have always stuck for a few seconds after turning on the truck. The other day while driving they flashed off and then back on. No big deal, truck didn't change, and they stayed on. Well today she called and said that the dash was out again and was not coming back on. She restarted the truck and still nothing. I her asked if the EDGE monitor was on and she said yes, but she still swears thats the problem. I don't think so, like I said since day one, and last time the chip gave us a problem it stalled the truck.

Anyways to prove a point I disconnected the chip, started the truck, and still nothing. Possibly proving that the chip is not causing this? I reconnected it bc it lets me know everything that the dash does besides how much fuel I have left.

As I got more and more pissed about how much I hate my truck I slammed the dash a few times with my hand and wouldn't you know...they came on.

I left to take a ride, hit 2 bumps and they flashed off and on twice, but after that it has been fine.

I tried to check the fuse box, but can't seem to find the fuse for the dash to see if it's loose. I understand some of the abbreviations, but not all of them. Could something else in the dash be loose like a wire connector or something?

The stealership tried getting almost 2 grand from me the first time saying some BS thing and that the whole dash has to be replaced, but I'm not buying it. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a loose wire inside the dash if its doing it when you hit bumps. I would start looking under the dash for one.

Do you use your tilt wheel alot??? I have had problems with that before. The wheel actually cut the insulation on the top of a wire

Its not too bad once you start taking it apart. first pull the surround off of the front. Just pull it forward and it will start coming off (put the shift lever all the way to 1 and tilt the steering wheel all the way down) then pull it all the way out. It's a little tight but it will come out. Then you can get a better look down in. There should also be a metal plate under the steering wheel (about where your knees are) that will come off with a few screws and you can check out your main harness. Hope that helps a little. Go to crutchfield website and you can see how to take just about any dash apart...

I have an 03 suburban that i just had ripped apart a few weeks ago putting a new stereo in and had to splice into the main harness. Its a little scary to take all that apart at first but once you do it the first time then its easy.

Thanks for the info, looks like tomorrows job after I get off.

I guess I should take it apart, start it up, and do some wiggling?

I hope you are talking about the dash and the wires!!! It has to be something simple. Good luck and keep us posted.
