Hello everyone, I have a 2001 LB7 bone stock, drove it home from work the other day and when I pulled in the carport it started pouring clean fuel out of the drain hole of the bell housing. I tore down to the CP3, took turbo horn off and just generally cleaned out to be able to see the valley, its all dry!, I cleaned all that up with brake clean and degreaser and washed out/blew out and let it dry. cranked the engine and started looking, NOTHING!!! still fuel coming out of bell housing when I kill the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated, pulling my hair out here!!!!
I know that the high pressure lines aren't leaking at the injectors or common rails, I have not pulled the injectors. That would be going in the motor correct? which would be filling the crankcase coming out the overflow tube correct?
The Injector can crack (I have had it happen) and it squirts fuel everywhere. So just check the back injectors and make sure its not that. They are not inside the engine or valve covers they are exposed like spark plugs would be on a gas motor. I noticed mine because I had fuel all over the tailgate and front of my trailer when I got home from a race. I smelled it, once I traced it down it turned out #8 (driverside rear) injector was cracked and spewing fuel everywhere.
It is NOT the injectors. They are indeed under the valve covers and would leak into the crankcase.
Does your oil have fuel in it?
Smoke at idle?
Check your fuel lines on the drivers side valve cover for leaks.
If an injector is leaking and dumping fuel inside the crankcase, it will dilute the engine oil and look like clean fuel. Then it may be pushed out the rear crank seal-[inside the bellhousing]
Drop some engine oil on a clean paper towel-- the oil will make a spot on the towel, and the fuel [if any] will make a halio around the oil spot.
Ah guess I should have explained better. I'm not implying that there are lines in the bell housing hence why I asked if he had fuel in oil. I mean that it could be the return line leaking and running down the bell hosting to give the appearance of leaking out of it. Without being there it is all speculation. It shouldn't be any fuel feed lines. Personally I myself would change my oil rather then check it. Should be 2.5 gallons. If more start with your injectors like stated above.
Had to look up CP3 freeze plug and learned that since pure diesel in a lab freezes at -120F, what we're talking about here is actually an inspection plug. Yea, I'm a smart a%# .
Here's a good write up on over-pressurizing CP3's on the supply side (only 8-10 pounds max recommended with a lift pump!) and how too much pressure can blow those plugs:
Since the truck we're talking about is stock, it would seem a blown plug is unlikely, but fuel from the flywheel housing sure makes it sound like that's the problem.
