Blown Exhaust Manifold Gasket?

i am currently hauling a load (28k gross) out to the bay area....i was in Arizona just west of Flagstaff when i started to develop what sounded like an exhaust leak.

the noise sounds like its coming from the driver side. only makes the sound when depressing the accelerator pedal while vehicle is in motion 2nd, 3rd & 4th gear only.

i looked for exhaust soot around the manifold and/or other parts in the area but seen none and felt no air escaping. everything appears in good order.

it does not do this while parked and revving the motor.

note, coolant looks green as it should, and oil, well it looks normal and not separated. no funny knocks or ticks. truck runs and drives just fine except for the dang noise/leak what ever it is.

anyone have any ideas.....also, thanks in advance

well i delivered the load to the bay area safe and sound. afterwards i decided to take another look at issue. after almost a day searching i decided to put the truck in the shop to have it checked out.

after 2 days in the shop the they still had not found the cause either. he told me "we can reproduce the sound but we honestly CANNOT find anything wrong with any of the components or engine."

so today i think i will get another load back towards texas and see if something visual develops.

i guess no here has any ideas........

Guess-- one of the innercooler boots are leaking at high boost.

Do you have gauges-? Is the boost like it usually is-?

yeah, i have auto meter gauges including a boost and pyro.

the boost looks the same as it did. if it is a boost leak its very tiny at this point. not affecting the performance at all.

I doubt its exhaust manifold gaskets. My guess would be up-pipe gaskets, if anything.

so i decided to park the rig and dig into this issue a bit moras the noise was getting louder an very noticeable. i drove from sacramento to bakersfield and everytime i put my foot into it....it make the leaking air sound. i also noticed that i was starting to loose boot and mpg.

so i parked the rig at the flying j truckstop (where i am currently writing this.)

i pulled the left/driverside inner wheel well apart (again) and decided to remove the cac pipe and boots for closer inspection (the shop in norcal did not remove to inspect as is why i am doing this).

after i got the lower cac boot off i noticed that is was frayed or was rubbed so the outter layer was removed and the ribbed portion was now exposed. i do not know if this is my issue but it is a good place to start. the cac pipe and upper boot looks to be in good working order.

this is the part# 21993711 for the cac lower boot. none of the shops in the bakersfield,ca area carry it.

i need this part asap. dealers say tuesday or wednesday before they can get it.

also, is there any longterm side affects of running the motor this way besides decreased boost, low mpg?
