I use the Hypertech mainly for recalculation of the speedo but I can feel a difference over stock and pose no risk for my tranny.
It's no EFI Live, but it's cheap, easy, and safe.

Efi live can be cheap too, if you find a local dealer for efi live and bring your truck to them, they can tune it with their v2 for much cheaper than buying your own autocal or v2. I would look into it

I'm new to diesels and am considering some upgrades for my 2013 duramax. How does the efi live you guys are talking about work and why is it so much better? I am asking because I am also interested in a tuner for my truck but my main concern is how much the stock transmission can take. The truck is a daily driver and will be used frequently for towing. Should I just leave it stock or are there some performance upgrades I can do and still keep it safe?

Get a PPE standard or economy xcelerator used off Craigslist or eBay. They will provide a good safe bump in power and economy. And when your ready to step up to EFI Live you will be able to resale it for about what you have in it...

Efi live is not capable of tuning the lml (2013), due to the lock from the factory on the ECM not being cracked. Personally I would go for h&s diesel if you want a tuner, but you will void your warranty so it is up to you. If I were you I would not tune your truck yet... I would wait a little bit incase your truck is a lemon (very unlikely) but its always good to put some miles on it before you void the warranty, that's my opinion though its your truck.

I got a hypertech on CL for 80 bucks run it on level 3. Idaho Rob said that is was nice safe mild tuner and would not pose any danger to the truck. I really like it, nothing crazy, truck is much more "derivable" and got a 3 mpg increase on highway... I was holding out for PPE but for the price I am stoked with the result. I did lots of asking around before installing. GL
