| New to Chevy and the Duramax I'm new to Chevy and would like to know overall how is the Duramax and what is the best low cost way to improve mileage and some HP. I'm not into mega HP, big tires, tricking out my pickup. I just want good fuel usage and some help when I do pull something. I just bought a 2001 Silverado that is in awesome condition and runs very nice.

| Welcome to the forum. I would suggest looking into EFI live tunes (an autocal is a very good reasonably priced option) from either Kory Willis or Rob Coddens. Then I'd say since it's an lb7 I would get an airdog II 165 lift pump (for the added filtration) and then an alligator cat filter adapter. Honestly prolonging the life of those precious injectors should be your #1 priority and the previously mentioned products will do just that. Also make sure you run a good fuel additive to assist.

| Has the injector issues been fixed? Do aftermarket injectors work with out the issues of the stock injectors? What kind of fuel additive do you use? One more question: Overall, how good is the lb7 motor and the Allison trans?

| I love my lb7, very reliable when left at or near stock power levels. I would also recommend what others have: EFI Live optimized stock tune from one of the vendors on the site, AirDog or Fass pump with filters, cat 2 micron filter adapter, gauges never hurt anyone, and a nice free-flowing exhaust. I wouldn't worry to much about additives as long as you have proper filtration you should be fine. Injectors will still go out in the lb7 trucks, and that is why filtration is king. Overall my opinion, the lb7 is the best all around duramax. It is reliable, gets decent fuel mileage without any mods, and doesn't have any emmisions junk to go wrong. You'll love it!

| I loved my LB7, it put out great power, was very reliable, and pulled mileage numbers that my LBZ has not touched. They do have the injector issue of course, and the 5 spd allison is pretty quick to limp. But, install a few choice mods, such as an AD or FASS, good EFI live tuning, and a free flowing exhaust, and 23ish mpg is easy to pull down.

| ![]() I can't figure out where to go ask a new question.... ![]() So I'll ask it here.. I have a cassette player in the lower part of the console (not in the stereo itself) and was looking for some kind of electronic "something" to replace the cassette player with. I still have the stock stereo. Any ideas? Thanks
