I would not recommend going to Edge. On another note, just tell your dad to call Banks, and when they ask if you bought it from them....say yes. They don't check serial numbers, etc....they just ask.

You might want to change the fuel filter too. 5-6K is typically the most you should put on a filter, and since he doesn't run it very much, it should at least be changed once a year. Can't hurt. And let us know how you make out.

I dont know if it will matter much but is it early 04 or late 04? it could be the first sign of injector issues but 1 lb of boost isnt much...
just as a pointer... when you wanna drive miss daisy leave the truck alone.... but everytime you wanna have some fun and play, put it in tow haul mode.... this will allow the tranny to learn 2 different driving techniques so everytime you kick it to tow haul, it will want to play... and also dont always drive it in top performance mode... save that for tow haul mode... daily drive in a lower setting..
thats just my .02... take it for what it is
Dunes what are you talking about??????
you want to keep it in the higher settings for daily driving and play then drop it down to 2-3 for towing
when you go back up from tow to daily driver let the tranny re-learn a bit before you get on it
most of the time the higher setting will give you better MPG anyway

Just went and bought a new fuel filter so I will go out an install that and see what happens for now. I have been driving it around town all day on level 6 and it has just over 50 miles on that setting now. I see what my dad means though I punched it from a dead stop and it lagged then boost came on it hit second gear and you hear the tires trying to break loose but they dont really even come close. It sounds like when you are driving across sand on pavement and you hear that slight slipping sound. When he first had the kit I remember it would start spinning in first shift into second and keep spinning just before it shifted to thrid it would stop.
The tranny was a little on the warm side from stop and go in town. it was 190 degrees. And I think the next maintenance item I will take care of is Changing the transmission fluid. its the original fluid from 04 with about 24k miles or what ever it has now some where in that area. Truck was a 08/03 production so the fluid is getting close to 5 years old.
Oh on another note I did watch the trans slip gauge and going through the gears under full throttle 0 slip at all and when cruising at freeway speeds it read between 5-8 which from looking up on here is normal.
Sorry I type so much here just trying to give all the details about whats going on. Thansk again for the advice you guys have been giving me.

+1 on that idea. Called them today and went right through to the retail purchasing from banks and they answered every question I had.

The guy from banks said the same change the filter first. He recommended it due to how much the vehicle sits vs mileage. Normally he said every 10k it should be changed. I was going to go by your advice either way. I dont mind doing so premature preventive maintenance.
Ok so I finally got to the filter tonight. I changed it and drove it around for a few miles and checked for leaks and everything was good. I got on it from a complete stop and nothing. Just took off and once it hit second gear you could hear the tires starting to lose grip but the road I was on was not really smooth either. I watched the boost and when it hit fourth it held 22psi for a few moments and then I looked away before it changed. So boost seems to be ok.
I just remember that when this kit was first put on you could punch it from a stop and it would spin the tires in first easily.
Here is a question for you. IS the computer a learning computer? What I mean is my subaru sti computer learns what it likes and does not like over time. Its senses knock and all that other good stuff. If I get a tank of fuel that is not up to par for the tune that I am running the car will start to pull timing from the motor to protect it. That timing is added back as the computer feels comfortable with the car running more. It also gives that timing back very very slowly. A quick way to get it back to the set tuning parameters is to reset the ecu and that way it goes right back to what my tuner specified it to run at. Then of course it will go through its learning process again.
Is there anything like that with these trucks?

Well a little update to go with my questions lately. I took the truck camping this weekend and it performed wonderfully. My trailer is not big. loaded I would say near 8k lbs. But the truck pulled it effortlessly the whole weekend I was really impressed. Went up a 7% grade in 98 degree weather doing 65-70mph with no issues. I know thats a little fast to be pulling but I wanted to see just how well it would do while I watched the gauges closely. boost was around 18-19psi egt was 1100-1200 and the tranny did great. Trans went from 188 to 200 during the whole pull and then once on flat ground dropped right back down.
So I guess our concern with it not frying the tires from take off should just not be a concern the truck does what we want from it and thats pull. Thanks for all the advice though guys much appreciated.
Brandon
almost forgot I had a avg mpg of 12.8 by the end of the trip.
