Straight Pipe????/

i was wondering if i just put a pipe in to replace the cat and muffler will the check engine light come on??

No you won't get a check engine light, I have my 03 lb7 straight piped and haven't had a problem. It screams!!

Also on the year truck you have there aren't any cats on it because the emissions control didn't become so strict until 04.

There is a possibility it could come on. Alot of time it wont come on untill you add a cat delete and a intake. I think the newer ones are more touchy than the older ones but as far as I know all duramaxs have cats.

Honestly, my SES light came on maybe 4-5 times? It came on once when I first did it and then goes out after a day or two. Came on a few times after that but I havent seen it in months!

From what I have read, no. You sure you have a cat? I don't think you do, so you should thow no codes. I didn't when I did my 04 LB7 (I didn't have a cat).

No it wont effect driveability at all. It helps out with fuel mileage a little. Some say you get horrible moan but I drivin mine 1600 mile round trip and towing alot without any complaints by me..... Other drivers on the other hand.......
