Hey guys,
My truck shows "Check Engine" light. When I had the code read it said MAF Sensor Fail. I probably had my K&N over oiled and fouled the sensor. I attemped to clean with alcohol since that is what a shade tree mechanic told me to do, but still shows a fault even after getting reset. Is there an aftermarket part to replace the sensor or delete it? I dont mind a little smoke.
I am also looking for a EGR valve delete kit. Never messed with one of these things before so ANY advise on this will be appreciated. My truck has one for sure, I checked.
Last thing, I tore loose the two front wheel speed sensors when I removed the lift kit from my truck on accident. I rewired them but still throws a fault. I am replacing them with aftermarket parts for a lot less than I would pay at dealership. Does anyone know if this is a simple project? It looks pretty straight forward to me, I know I will have to get it reset after but that is no big deal.
Thanks in advance for ya'lls help.

well, after reading several other posts on the EGR valve, I am not so sure that I do have one. There is something that looks like the EGR valves on gasoline engines, but I do not think that I have the vaccuum pump things. I am probably mistaken about the EGR, I will take another look at it.
I have done several google searches for the MAF, where do ya'll find them? I do not mind paying for one, but what does it really do? I just noticed my mileage DIE when that light came on.

the MAF measures how much air is entering the engine. This lets the comptuer know how much fuel to inject. If it gets dirty the readings aren't as accurate, hence bad mileage. You dont want to use anything but actual MAF sensor cleaner. Anything else can leave a residue on the sensor and it still won't read accuratley.
crawl under your truck and look at the exhaust. There will be a muffler towards the back, and there may or may not be a catalitic converter more towards the front. If there is a cat then there will also be an EGR valve in the engine compartment. The other way to check is to look at the codes in the glovebox. If you have the code "FE9" then you won't have a cat or EGR.
Oh, and DO NOT touch the little wires on the MAF sensor. the oil from your fingers can ruin it. Only hold it by the outside.
OK, I def. did not have a cat converter. When I went to straight pipe all I had was the monsterous muffler, not cat.
I am pretty sure that the MAF is ruined, but I will try to clean it with the right stuff.
Thanks for all the timely replies. I am gonna email you Mr. Meyers, I have some questions about EFI.
