Hey does anybody have a jake brake on their LB7? I have 35' fifth wheel and was really looking at installing one. Any suggestions on manufacturer and was it easy to install? Does it help and is there any drawbacks? Thanks.
you are talking about exhaust brake...i hear BD makes a pretty good one. I havent towed heavy enough to worry about it. I have heard of people having issues with the banks one.

I too have driven big rigs for 30 years. My new 2009 LMM came stock with what they call a sort of engine brake. Not an exhaust by any means, but works to keep your downhill speed controled. I had this on my 2002 GMC, however everytime I put it in "tow/haul" mode, then tapped the brakes while coming off a grade, it would always bump up to maybe 2nd or 3rd gear which put me in a red line situation. I always had to quickly put it in neutral and then back to drive. They claim they have since fixed this problem in the newer trucks. An after market exhaust brake will cost a bunch.

Going into the "redline" area of the tach is not bad under a grade braking condition. It is only bad when you would hit the solid red about 4800. there is nothing to worry about if it does that. Even with the new LMM you may see RPMs over 4000 in a grade braking situation. GM just took the redline out so people wouldnt be worried when they saw the RPMs up that high.

That's good to know. I just purchased a new 09 LMM. Only have 250 miles on it so far. As soon as I get around 500 i'll hook up the horse trailer and see how it pulls. The dealer did mention that there was really no need to worry about the RPM's, it's how it is designed. We'll see for sure. I'm looking forward to using the manual settings on the trans. My 02 had the 5 speed and worked well, but after 250K miles it was time to give it some time off.
