Most of the guys have said to keep it around 90 hp if i am going to "hot rod" around with a stock tranny. I figure its cheaper to beef it up than replace it!!

true to beef it up. Our tranny have 6 speed ally but 6 is locked out. You can get a valvebody I do beleive from suncoast I think that can make early model dmax a 6 speed. I haven't personally seen it but have heard alot talk about it and say it is true to make them a 6 speed. Same tranny different valvebody.

This is somewhat true but not entirely. Our tranny's are capable of being a 6 speed through the Suncoast conversion kit, but they still are not the same tranny. There are some other internal mods done to the factory 6 speed that makes them more capable of handling the power which is why they only need the trango JR kit vs the full transgo for the 5 speed. I can't name the differences myself, but know that if you ask Suncoast, Diesel nut, or IdahoRob they could better tell you.
