I will check in the morning, is there anything else to check if it is hard to squeeze or is pretty much a done deal that it is a HG?

The cheapest, quickest, easiest way to confirm the headgaskets are leaking pressure into your coolant system is to overfill your coolant system and see if bubbles show up with the truck running. If you've got bubbles, your headgaskets are leaking. Their shouldn't be any gasses in you coolant system. It's a 5 minute job to check. Free too! If you see bubbles, the free ends.....

Ok had a Chevy mechanic at the house, my neighbor, and ran the truck: checked coolant levels, got tstats to open, and bled the system... Trying to work out any air bubbles. We had the system overfilled and had NO air bubbles in the tank while running

He is not a diesel mechanic, but knows his stuff. He is coming by in the morning to check radiator hose "hardness"

Anything else we should look at why I have him over, he is going to run all of the info by the diesel guy at Chevy tomorrow.

Let me know, I am still hanging on by a thread that it is not a HG... Please someone tell me something... (good) haha

Thanks for the help so far

Well I think I was in denial, still puking coolant and hard hose this morning. Have the head pressure tested next week.

What are some things to take advantage of while its opened up from a performance and durability standpoint? The truck has 134k on it.

Thanks,
Jason

I put the new style C gaskets, ARP studs and a new water pump in while I had it apart. Totaled it two weeks later... If you do the work, make sure you pressure test the heads and resurface them before putting them back on.

Sorry to hear it turned out to be HGs.

Appreciate tge info, that sucks you wrecked it after all that work. I planned on all you mentioned besides water pump, I will mention that to my mechanic... I am sure he will verify the heads if they need to be resurfaced.

Thanks...
