04.5-05 LLY Duramax PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect
HELLO all i just found this website with all its great info and had a question to ask.....First off i have a 2005 lly 6.6 that is stock except for the green air filter lol! i asked my dealer if deleting cat would void warr was told no and they asked what i had in mind i told them im gonna put 4" duals from the turbo back and delete cat and muffler since there is no emissions or state inspection here. i asked if it would do justice they claimed it would and i would be less restrictive exhaust flow and lower egts and said no power loss.
Then i called this guy that is in Ca. that said no dont do it i would lose 12% power loss. then another place said no your doing your motor justice. so what sthe real story can anyone help me. anything is appreciated. also i plan on adding cold air and gale banks system in FUTURE ,funds wont allow right now.
thanks jason my truck-----> :Peelout :Peelout :
i know this isnt totally fit for the problem section but if i changing this to duals is a bad thing then theres a problem to follow

You shouldn't lose power, just make sure to swiss cheese your airbox to feed more air to your engine. I doubt you would notice a loss in power...once you get your programmer it will be a no issue on the so called "loss of power." If you delete the cat, you will throw codes unless you buy a thing called fingerstick (basically a bypass so you don't throw codes)and an EGR blocker plate.......do a search on dieselplace.com.

thanks for your input ob_1jr ..... i found out today by calling another service manager at another dealership that he said if i remove the cat i void my warr. as posted below the dealer were i bought from said no i wouldnt... so i called back the dealer were i bought my duramax aND ASKED HIM WHAT THE CONFLICTING ANSWERS IM GETTING? YOU SAY NO VOID THEY SAY VOID. HE SAID IT IS DEALERS DISCREATION . he said the other dealer had a duramax that came in for service on a rollback it wouldnt run they opend up the hood and followed wires to thermo coupler and ended up lookin arround and found his banks system and told him they refused to work on it and that they voided there warr. well that guy took his truck to my dealer and they worked on it under warr and found out his chip is the problem they disconnected the chip and bam it started no problems....... so just to be safe im going so far with a cat back system because you ussually dont break down close to home as luck ussually works and he said there is no warr issues if i go after the cat. anyone else have any opinions all excepted o sorry about the caps up above i wrote to much to delete and start over
thanks

The only warranty that it will void is the warranty on your original exhaust that was put on the truck from the factory. They cannot void the warranty on the engine or the rest of the truck. Exhaust has nothing to do with your tailgate handle suddenly not working or a radio that won't work does it? Nope! There are federal laws to protect you from dealers trying to bend you over. putting a straight thru turbo back exhaust kit on your truck causes no power loss. It frees up airflow creating a little more boost pressure, less harmful EGT's and sounds great all at the same time. Now read closely....no dealer can void anything that is covered under the factory warranty on your vehicle unless they can PROVE that the modification that you did to it caused a certain part to fail or wear prematurely. They won't admit to you but just call your local attorney general and see what mr. law has to say! Now go hack out that quiet, restrictive coffee stirring straw sized eshaust and put on a nice and rumbly high flowing big gulp straw exhaust kit and tell your dealer to bend over put the old one.....somewhere.......
thanks on the informative info . i wrote my local unservice manager a lil note giving him your so true info and what he claims will be voided and of course no response .....as i was looking to buy a truck they were bending over backwards kissing my ass now there trying to bend me over. o no im going over his head. i am sick of incompentent trashy people i live arround there dumber then dirt and all out for them selves. by the way i love your explanation of coffee sipping straw to the big gulp to that . thanks for all your help. i just dont understand why they would try to feed me bullsh*t it is like they pay for warr. no chevy pays them to work on it they make most of there money on warr. work so why are they so
thanks

Hey not a problem Duramaxxed. I'm a Ford guy but I love all diesels, and i'm glad to help anyone who has one. Yeah your serviceless manager probably didn't expect to get owned when you gave him that note. Anyway I was looking back over your posts and saw that one guy told you that you could lose 12% of your power? Whatever it is he's smoking, he needs to sell it back to his dealer pronto! Free flowing exhaust kits have been said to add enough flow for more power that you can physically notice the difference. What an idiot. And yeah the straw comparison was great wasn't it? I also noticed you were looking for a cold air kit. That's cool, just study up on them and get one that can still outflow the stock unit, but filter as just as close to it as possible. I've heard of a lot of guys with eventual turbo failures because they were getting so much air because of aftermarket filter kits sacrificing filtration for flow. I like the AFE's, but get a pre-filter for it. I've heard K&N's are some of the worst though. Just beware!
thanks again im like you i love all diesels to i come from a long line of truck drivers and and come to love the turbo whine of the diesels my self. i let my dad drive my stock duramax and he couldnt beleive how advanced diesels have come he was a truck driver for 30 years and always had diesel cars and truck and they were powerful for pulling yet slugish.I agree with ya to that i thnk i showed him that i know the laws that pertect me from people like him.and thanks for the heads up on the guy from Ca. that told me 12% loss, i think he just isnt knowlegable about what he is making and selling. my only fear is going with this exhaust from a company called red deer aka motoblue aka flopro. i have found flopro dealers locally selling my system for $650+75 instal and it is same company they buy from im getting it from for $379. shipped to the door. unfortunatly theres people that arent happy with this company called rpmoutlet .com . i aslo realize most people that will give info on a company are mostly bad results you usally dont heear good results in site like this one. also im trying to study up on which cold intake im gonna use. yes i havnt heard alot of good about k/n. my friend has one on his cummins with what he claims is no problems so we will see down the line!
thanks again

If you absolutly have to have a cold air intake, go with the AFE Proguard 7 one. It runs about the same price as the K&N and filters better. Although, I think I just wasted money on it, but I am pretty happy with it so far.

I'd stick with somewhat of a reputable brand on the exhaust. My truck sports a magnaflow, and the kit was everything they said it was and better. Not to say the "knock off" brands aren't any good, but I don't know many people using them. I Don't know how they sound, don't know how they fit, etc. And your california guy would be right on the 12% loss if he was talking about a gas engine, but diesel, only a gain is possible. On the filter, personally i'd just stay away from the K&N.
well i ordered my dual exhaust god it was a heavy box 110lbs and of course ups must of played catch with it i had 2 pipes with slight dents and hangers pertruding out of the box. but its ok hugeeeeeeee i even got free tips out of them nice 5" 45 degree cuts with rolled in tips. i understand what your talking about as going for a more rep exhaust . i did find locals selling the same thing under dif name called flopro and they want $750 plus $75 intall for my same dual kit same maker everything. it is made by a company called red deere from Canada that sells it to others that change the name on it to there own.i took mine to my local muffler shop and he sells this brand and banks performance exhaust he said if he is correct that magnaflow is made by red deere also same company as mine. well i dont know my self but if it is and your happy with yours i will def be happy with mine
thanks for all help from everyone. now off totranny problem section to post about new found trouble
