Broke the magnet inside the transfer case

Don't ask me how.... Lol Finally had enough time to finish to put my transfer case back together after the pump rub job and I broke the magnet in 3 pieces. I can't seem to find a replacement so my only option seems to be to leave it out & get a magnetic drain plug. Will that suffice? Should I put a similar sized washer in there to fill the hole? What are my options here?

Thanks!

Are you talking about the magnet on the spin on filter? Half the time dealers lose them when they service your truck. Won't hurt it to drive a little while without it. Get a magnet at your local dealer or from one of the vendors on this forum. You can spin the filter off and replace it any time, you shouldn't lose any fluid-or at least not enough to matter-if you do it carefully. Or just replace the filter with a new magnet in a couple thousand miles.

Transfer case not transmission.

Anyone? Probably going to use a thin piece of sheet metal cut to shape and epoxy the pieces together on it, using the metal as a backing plate. Hopefully it works out like that at least.

He is referring to the rectangular magnet in the slot with the pump pickup inside the transfer case. You can probably find something similar at a craft store. The drain plug with the magnetic tip would work also

It's actually round, but I am going to try to fix it today.

Maybe it was my lack of coffee, but I was thinking you wer trying to fix a hole in the case with some epoxy and a piece of metal. Ignore my last post :
