On my way into work I was going to pass a car and half way around the car the trans made a "thud" sound and the RPM's jumped. I didnt even give it enough to downshift and was only going about 57-58mph. The Edge was on 4. I've taken the truck to the track a few times and played some on the highway but was always pretty easy on it and I never once limped it. So now it appears the trans only has 4th gear forward, the convertor isnt locking up, and no reverse. So what the heck happened? Why did it let go, I'm not making much power?
Also, I need to get it back on the road as fast AND as cheap as possible, what do I do? Please let me know, I am really lost and in a bad spot right now.
you dont feel it slip...it just detects a tiny amount of slit that you never feel and bam limp mode..shut down, clear codes start and it should be back to normal...then turn the edge down or remove

It didnt go into limp mode though, I drove the last 3 miles to work at 55mph and 2400rpms. Its just stuck in 4th gear. Even when I come to a complete stop and take off its in 4th gear. And reverse does nothing. The Service light is on but I cant read the code or codes.
If I'm correct....when you limp it...you need to pull over....shut the truck off....let it sit for a couple minutes....start it back up.....and then it should work. Limp mode doesn't just shut off when you pull over...you have to stop the engine, etc. And it will stay stuck in 4th until you do park it, shut it off, etc...

that is limp mode....mine did that too. I had to shut my truck off for about 30 mins. the light went out after a couple of key cycles...a day of driving.

yea its in limp....its not in 4th when you take off it just feels that way becuase the converter is barely coupling and its at mega reduced power for take off..
pull over shut down wait 5 minutes and start all will be well....or at least till you limp it again

So when you limp the tranny it locks it in 4th gear and disables the reverse? I thought limp mode limited you to 2k rpms, but the trany still opperated normaly. Or is that just the P1093 code I'm used to that limits you to 2k rpms?
when you actually limp the tranny, it wont shift into 5th and will be limited to 2000. I never tried to put it in reverse when i limped it bad like that...just pulled over and shut it off.

I hope y'all are right, I'll go out and start it in a few minutes and see if reverse works. If it does the Edge is going on 1/1 and staying there till I get the trans built. I cant afford to build it now, but I cant afford to park it for the next couple months either.
