04.5-05 LLY Duramax PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect
Alright guys start laughing now, it won't hurt my feelings for long. I have a couple of new guy questions for you.
1. I keep reading about high and low egt but I can't find a gauge in my truck. Where do you read the temp? Aftermarket gauges?
2. If the Egr valve is there for emissions to allow air to flow into the engine during certain conditions why would I want to block it off? Surely when they designed it to go there they would have known some soot would go in as well.
3. I stopped off at my local friendly chevy dealer and he told me that cute little external transmission filter was 47 bucks. Is that really what they go for? Any other surprises I need to prepare myself for.
Thanks guys
Bill

1: EGT gauge is an aftermarket addition.
2: Not every idea was ingenious in GM's designs. Oil, soot, and heat equals coke, something that will restrict the intake components.
3: You can do better than $47. I got mine for 1/3 that gouge, er, price...try NAPA.
You can go online to North America: Sales & Service Locator: Allison Transmission and find one close to your house. They sell the same filter for around $9.00 just pick up a few while you are there so you do not have to keep wasting fuel driving there when you need a new one. The other guy's answered the rest of you question.

Also, I picked up a quadzilla recon digital gauge from xtreme diesel recently. It monitors egts, boost, and oil or tranny temp. Or you could spend more and monitor fuel pressure. Mine costs me $170 shipped.
