I am looking into buying a 05 Chevy with real low miles on it. It Has the Dmax and the Allison tranny. Its a 2500hd 4x4 xcab. The display says its getting 13.4mpg but its been at the dealer for a while. So I am thinking its way off becuase of all the short trips and ideling it may do. I have read some posts that state you have to modify the fan clutch? Will a quadzilla help with fuel mileage?
One other question is a 05 lt worth 25g?
ps I love my Dodge and it and felt a bit stronger than the Dmax. But I dont tow I just plow. But I am sick of looking at the same truck for the past 10 years. I owned a 94,00,04.5. Its just the same truck. I like change. ANd out the 3 the 12v was by far the torque monster of of all them

Rain or shine, no matter how I drive my 04.5 LLY (Allison) DMAX I get about 18(+/-) all around driving and about 15 towing. I drive a lot of highway at 60 MPH (1800 RPMs) to 65 MPH (2000 RPMs) and have never really seen much better. I try to keep it below 2000 RPMs on acceleration, etc, in order to improve mileage, but I saw no difference. I've heard these guys talking about 20+ MPH but I think it's horsepucky. Maybe if you fart around at 55 MPH (1500 RPMS), but not in the real world. The LB7 guys supposedly get a little better mileage due to a less restrictive exhaust (not cat), but us LLY guys are plagued by emissions restrictions if you retain the stock exhaust. I recently purchased an Edge w/ Attitude in order to improve my mileage, but have yet to see any results. Power wise the Edge is worth it. Really gives you juice, even if you retain stock intake and exhaust (like mine). I'm sure a less restrictive exhaust would improve mileage, but don't get too rapped up in mileage. The DMAX Chevy is just a great truck. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Cummins and believe it's a great powerplant, however feel the Dodge trucks are chinsey and cheap...Not so in the Chevy. Go for the DMAX, you won't regret it.
17.3 on a 600 mile trip running an average of 80mph. Hand calculated. I believe I could make the 20mpg mark on the highway running 60 or so. My D.I.C. reads 21mpg when I am getting 17.3. Before the mods I could not get better then 14.1 no matter how I drove.

I was getting 16 to 17 until I went to 285 tires now I'm at about 15 to 16. I paid 26,800 for my 05 last fall 68,000 miles.

I have 38k on mine, all stock and get about 17-19 mpg average with my dually tires on, if I hand calculate. My DIC reads about 15.5 to 17 in winter and 19.5 to 21 in summer. Mostly run at 60-65 mph. I also have and edge, but its in the box it came in...havent had time to try it
swapped to amsoil and back to delo and see about a .5 gain in mpg with the amsoil, besides the silky smooth cold starting.
getting ready to put full synthetics in axles and trans/tcase
