I blew an engine a number of years ago, and GM was great in dealing with the warranty. would it be more of a dealer issue, in that they are not stepping up for you?

No, this one is the complete opposite. The dealer has tried everything and General Motors won't stand behind their own warranty. The Big (60 month/100,000 mile Diesel warranty from General Motors is worthless.
