duramax longevity

I was wondering about how many miles most people are getting out of there trucks, before rebuilding. I have a retired rig truck with 150,000 miles, the motor seems very strong and now is lightly modified. Im intrested in building about 450 to 500hp, and was a little worride the motor might not handle the hp. Durmaxs seem to be vary expensive to replace, and im already having trouble with the allison and have replaced the torque conveter and the rear end. Any info will help. Thanks

I have seen Dmaxes with 300,000 on them and still running. They were stock though.

I agree 300,000+ is a mileage you canshot for. However if you start to fo the power adding you could be shortening the life of the dmax. If you try to get high horse power just be careful when you use the power and keep up on oil changes.

Ya there's lots of guys on here in the 200k+ range. time will tell how long they really last. there's rumors of them upwards of 500k but I don't think anyone on here actually has one first hand. Its usually a friend's uncle's second cousin twice removed who knows someone who once saw one with that many miles.

Beef up your tranny, and do the other supporting mods, and the motor will definently handle 450-500. Much more than that will require internal mods. But thats a good safe number for a stock motor.
