285's or 265's

wondering what size i should go with. id like to keep from lifting the truck if possible, more of a sleeper truck. but id still like to have the wheel wells filled out a little more. they will be mounted on 17 x 9 dc-1 wheels. what do you think the 265's will look like. will the 285's have clearance issues with the stock suspension. thanks for any input.

With the 285s you will probably have to crank the t-bars a little and trim the front valance. The 265s will fit with out any modifications.

Go with the 285's better look and ride! might cut mileage a little but hell fuel is only $4.65 a gallon!

I'm running 285's and will never go back. You will have to trim the front valance a bit, but shouldn't have to crank the t-bars at all. It will mess up your speedometer a bit, mine did about 4 mph at 65. This will account for your fuel mileage drop. Mine didn't drop more than about .75 mpg adjusted.

Make sure you keep the weight rating that you need. I needed load range E and the only one's available in 285's were BFG All Terrain T/A's.

I put the 285/75/16's on mine no mods..But with the 17 inch you may crank the torsion bars a bit, then if you like you can trim the air dam at bottom of front bumper,I am goin back to 265's just to see where I can get my mileage.I can squeeze 22mpg at 70 mph[unloaded of course]with the 285's.So I am thinking that I could use the 1-2 mpg I lost when puttin the 285's..Good luck!!!

I had 285's on my truck and went to 265's I missed the look and went back to 285's. The 285's dont get as good mileage but they look better. Most people get 8 wide wheels so your 9 might make the tire a little shorter that it would on a 8. You might have to crank the torsion bars a little but not where it will hurt anything. The only think is if you adjust the torsion bars you gotta get a alignment when your done.

I have 285 and love the look of them. I would love to get a little bigger wheel though.

If you are running a different wheel with the tire you will have to crank on the torsion bars. When I had 285s on the stock wheel I did not have to adjust anything. I put the same tires on the aftermarket wheels and I had to crank the bars up three turns. I will eventually put a leveling kit on but for now I just have the bars turned up.
