Alright here's the deal. I drive an 05 with a banks intake, full 4" cat back system with no muffler, and a hyper tuner set up on it. Shes got 202000 on the clock, nothing engine wise has been changed in the past 150k (other than oil and filters) It just laid down at the local wal mart yesterday. It ran fine, and has been running fine. I go in grab some things, get out to the truck, starts just fine, drop it in gear and go to pull out... im barley limping along. I give it some skinny pedal, and nothing. then i notice the grayish white smoke. It was acting like it was starving for air or fuel not sure which. I parked it and walked over a parts store, borrowed their code reader and read P0101 P0102 P0401 P0404 P0621 P0670 and P1404. After a fair amount of digging, I cannot come up with a plan to fix it. From what I've been able to gather, none of these should keep if from moving. I know its mostly EGR/mass air flow related.... Just looking for some direction here.
If you're thinking it's possibly MAF related and you're in a parts store parking lot getting a can of MAF cleaner and giving that sensor a good clean could be a place to start.
Im basing this off what you think is going on, I'm not the best with off the top of my head code diagnosis, just hoping to offer an idea to get you down the road.
Probably not it, but check anyway-
The FICM harness can be a problem for the 04.5/05 LLY engine -- It is secured at the side of the alternator with a Zip tie. Cut the tie and pull the wires out. inspect carefully. Be sure you insulate the harness from the bracket, as the whole problem is the FICM bracket has a sharp edge and cuts into the wires.
well, went back with all intentions of cleaning the MAF. took it off and realized it was actually broken. ordered a new one because of course the parts store didn't have one. hope this fixes it
Glad you found something-- MAF is kinda pricey, but if that is all that is wrong-- great.
If you have an Android phone- or tablet, you can download TorquePro--[$5] and a OBDII Bluetooth adapter [$15-online] and read LOT of the operating readings-- everyone should do this- the phone does not have to have a number- just be able to connect to the internet to get the program. Sorry don't think Apple users can do this.
Well, that didnt turn out as planned. I replaced the mass air flow (found one in stock the next town over) reset the computer and now I have no check engine light, but it still doesnt run right. It will idle ok, but wont rev. it'll go to about 1300 and the start to sputter real bad and smoke like a tire fire. grayish smoke that smells like kerosene. I'm leaning towards a blown turbo.
good point.... I'm gonna take the egr off and try to clean it up a bit to get it home in the a.m. and then most likely delete it in the near future. I was thinking the turbo maybe seized and causing the restriction to make the truck think the egr is bad. both things will be looked at when there is more daylight.
I checked for boost leaks earlier, none found. I'll reset the tuner to stock, sounds like a good idea... but since the truck is about half an hour away I'll still wait for the a.m.
alright, new development. took the egr off, cleaned it, put it back and no change. a friend pulled the mass Air flow sensor out and put his finger over the hole while I tried to rev it. the intake was actually pressurized, so I'm thinking egr issue. gonna order the sinister delete kit now
Where did the rest of the old maf sensor go? My only thought is that it's in or gone through the turbo. Not trying to be Debbie downer but it had to go somewhere.
Possible fuel contamination? Wouldnt be the first time $#^&t head kids dumped their big gulp into someones fuel tanks cuz its "fun". Drop your fuel filter and look for water contamination. Just thinking out loud...
still in the parking lot. I plan to do the most of, if not all of the delete in the parking lot. It's in a walmart parking lot.. im sure worse has happened there lol
