I am attempting to isolate the cause of rust-colored fluid ouflowing from a firewall discharge hose (passenger side). I believe it is the heater/AC overflow hose, but I am not certain. Please note that both pix should be rotated counter-clockwise 90 deg, but the Forum upload feature would not have any of it! !'dunno;
Anyway, if any of you wiz-kids can help me out with how to correct and eliminate rusty water from spilling all over my garage floor, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Water flowing off of the cowl area, drops off to the battery top on the pass side.
Depending on the mfr/style of caps, that water can flood the cells on that half of the battery and produce the rust stains you see. Check your fluid levels in your battery and you'll probably see the 3 nearest the firewall are over full, while the other 3 are at normal levels.
Some Users have crafted plastic shields over the battery to deflect the water.
The caps on my EastPenn batteries (Napa Legends) are designed where external water there doesn't penetrate the cap seals. But I have had it occur on other brands of batteries used in the past (acDelco is one).
Hook'em Horns; you were right~ The (3) cells closest to the firewall were over-filled with fluid. Fluid (sulfuric acid) is on top and draining down the back of the battery. I configured a dam inside the engine compartment on top of the firewall-vent, to divert the incoming water to the far right side. Now I will test to see if it works....
