LLY's turbo mouth piece is restrictive. easy fix.
head gaskets are prone to go out...
injector wire harness rubs. thats an easy fix also.
i think there might be one more just cant really remember.

LBZ's dont really have any problem with them. they have the six speed which is a pro.

The LLY -- 04.5--05 years had a connection problem with the injectors, and a wear through on the FICM harness-- both an easy fix. Less common is some higher mileage trucks lost the head gaskets.

The 06-- can be a LLY or a LBZ--same engine and all parts-- the LLY had a mild tune. No real problems-- probably the best Duramax

LLY also has the FICM harness rub, also an easy fix. Pump rub is also an issue, but not limited to the LLY, I think they all suffer from it.

so what you guys are tellin me is that the lly has its share of small issues, and headgaskets. the lb7 as far as i know is only injector issues, so the best duramax, out of the three is the lbz?

'04.5-'05 also can be prone to overheating. The '06-07.5 LLY/LBZ got a bigger radiator and fan compared to the '04.5-'05 LLY, which only has a small number of sure-fire options, all of which involve adding a secondary cooling system.

Some people have overheaters, some don't... Luck of the draw and what you do with it I suppose. So far I have been really happy with my 04.5 though, and it was at least 5k cheaper than a similar mileage '06 with the LBZ.
