Turbo back exhaust

Hi all

I just bought my first Duramax truck and I want to install a turbo back exhaust system. I am just worried about getting my inspection sticker later on down the road. Has anyone had any experience with that, especially in Texas, and do they even look at that on a diesel when doing the state inspection? Thanks for any knowledge you may be able to share.

They're still not requiring emission inspections on diesel trucks in CA. At least they didn't require one for my 2007.5 to get tags in 2008. I think I've read that they will eventually start requiring it soon, but I don't remember when. Not sure about TX; hope this helps.

Do you have a LB7 or LLY? Check the eigth digit of your vin if its a 1 you have a LB7 if its a 2 you have a LLY. If you have a LB7 you shouldn't have a cat and would have no problem with a inspection

Lly

It is the LLY, I have been under it and it has a cat. I realy doubt that an inspection shop would catch that but i hate to do the work by the exhaust and then have to take it out. My county does not do emissions at all but i know some places do a "visual inspection" of exhaust on vehicles.

Thanks for all the help

Hmm... You could always get a cat back exhaust then hollow the cat out or delete it. Then whe inspection time comes just put it back on.

Heres how Id delete it. Use a 3.5 pipe and 2 band clamps, Then at inspection time reinstall the cat!

(This is my muffler delete but same can be done with cat)

Thanks for the post.. I will most likely do that. I am going to leave myself some option such as what you suggested and replace the cat for inspection or worst come to worst re hang the OEM exhaust once a year. Kinda hate to go that far. I know most of the diesels I hear around here have turbo back systems so Im probably worrying about nothing. I like this option though thanks.
