How much hp will the stock clutches in the allison hold? Looking to get around 550 to the rear wheels and was just wondering if just a convertor and valve body upgrade would be fine. The truck will not be sled pulling or on the strip, just a little street racing.

the tranny will hold that much HP but not very long at all so do a stage 4 SunCoast and your good for that many ponies all day.the stage 4 Suncoast replaces the stock clutches and valve body but there are guys running the bigger valve bodys and stock clutchs well over 600RWHP with no problems but a good converter is very much needed.

I run stock clutches on my truck that is around 675HP, but there are a lot of mods to the tranny.
Most of the time the stock clutches have seen abuse, so your not saving much money buy putting them back in when comparing the a suncoast kit.
A stage 3 is rated to 500HP, but holds more if you are looking for a cheaper option for a stock turbo'd truck.
The stock shafts hold up very well.

It wont cost you that much more to go with the clutches too and it'll last longer. Your better off to do it right the first time with the transmission. I'd go with the suncoast stage IV and you could install it yourself to save some money. There is someone on here thinking about making a power point to help with rebuilding them.

SCIV and a good converter will do you just fine. Mine hasn't missed a beat.
