Magnaflow SS exhaust observations

Well I bought this Magnaflow exhaust and I had read somewhere the muffler was like 3 inch down the middle. Crap more like 2 1/2 at best. That thing is NOT a muffler its an orfice, a major restriction. I feel bad for people who dont have the skills or facilities to fix stuff like that. I guess you could buy a different muffler or put a straight pipe in there. I had a 4 inch Flowmaster Outlaw muffler I put inplace of the restricter, welded all joints but the joint right in front of the muffler, should be good now. I will get it off the lift and put some new coolant in and find out how it sounds.

I told them thats what I wanted, they musta thought...no wait no they did'nt! I got it covered though, I'll run it with the Outlaw muffler till I get enough ambition to get a chunk of 4 in stainless tubing and eliminate it. I can put my whole fist inside that muffler so its about straight as it gets without actually being straight thru.

what are you talking about? Magnaflow has a 4" straight through muffler, IIRC.

I've got one of the SS mufflers sitting right here. Is your exhaust spec'd for a duramax?

magnaflow is not a straight through design, the MBRP mufflers are.
How old is the muffler you have.

Define "straight thru" This is the culprit...er muffler.

This is a cup with a O.D. of 3.20 or so...

I dropped the cup into the muffler and it stopped when the top lip of the cup got close to the inside diameter of the muffler.

This picture is the best I can get into the opening which is at best 3 inch dia "straight thru" the system might as well be a 3 inch.

Hope the pictures clear up my definition of "restriction"

Good Pics, I see what you are referring to now.

Does anyone know why this step exists?

Tyler, are you aware of how much quieter the Magnaflow is compared to MBRP?
