Bought an '05 GMC 3500, 4x4, dually Sierra yesterday, 97000 miles, auto, 4-door. Runs great. Getting only 14 mph. Got this truck to pull a 5th wheel rv in the very near future. Not in the least interested in high performance mods but would very much like advise on improving the mileage.
Winter truck- '98 GMC K1500 ECSB Z71, 125,000 one owner miles, custom buckshot dents in driver's side cab extension and front of box compliments of 2am drive by.
I have Customers who changed ALL of their drive train fluids over to full synthetic AMSOIL and have realised increases in mileage of between 3-8%. Although mileage depends on MANY different factors, and no two trucks are exactly alike, you WILL see gains if you make the switch.
Let me know if you would like more information, especially on how I can help you get them for wholesale prices..... (up to 25% off of full retail....)
God Bless
Chris

Do a search on mouthpiece, that will help, I was getting 18 reliably before the mod, have not had it on long enough to see how much better it is but as you will see, it helps. The size of the tires will make a difference too. Is the truck stock or has there been modifications done to it? Like bigdaady said, there are alot of variables.

It's stock. It's also a 4x4 which I also forgot to mention. My bad. Tires are standard size. Also what is the sweet spot with rpms with the Duramax? I'm tacking 2100 at 70mph. The 14 is a mixture of interstate and city. I'm going by the lie o meter also. I'm really not up on Duramx. Was planning to get a Cummins. Gm so much nicer truck though.
As stated above, the mouthpiece mod and exhaust upgrade as well as pvc re-route and egr blocker are musts if your going to be towing. As for mileage I've had pretty good luck with a superchips programmer, getting 16+ us gal/20ish imp gal and getting better with the warmer weather.

Are you telling me I bought a truck that I've got to mod in order to pull with? That's the only reason I bought the monster.
Some will say they haven't had issues(yet) but the 04.5/05 lly has intake issues(turbo mouthpiece). Look in the other 04.5/05 lly forum and find the post "attn:all lly owners" , a lot of good info and not overly expensive. I wish I knew what I know now when I bought my truck cause it might have saved me a head gasket job, but I guess that's how we learn Just don't get too discouraged as there is a lot of info to absorb, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

these will really help your engine stay cleaner, continue to run well, and last longer
