Swapped turbo inlet MP back to stock, what a difference!!!!!

My Yukon inlet cracked so I need to get a new one, so I just put the stock MP back on for now.

The difference is crazy. The turbo is MUCH quieter but with the Edge on levels 0-2 I dont notice much of a difference. But if I go to level 4/5 or 5/5 it rolls black smoke. With the other MP on running level 5/5 I would get a puff of smoke when I hammer it but then clear as can be. Now at WOT it still has a slight haze.

The stock MP is definatly holding back some power. I hope I get it fixed soon, I dont like tons of black smoke like that.

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting observations:

it's due to 10% less air flow, and the compressed charge is hotter also, lowering oxygen density further. The IOH kit represents a total of 15% more oxygen density at higher power levels, and that translates to more than 15% less smoke in more complete combustion. Fuel Economy IOW.

It is a compulsory add-on to any LLY, and a required element in all my no-smoke performance custom tunes.

I didnt use a LBZ or ported LLY intake, I used a K&N inlet pipe from my Yukon 6.0L FIPK. It is a wide open 4" pipe, bigger than the LBZ. I cut the K&N tube to length, which also has a nice curve to it so it arc's over to the left like the stock intake does. The sylicone 4" coupling that came with the FIPK fit right over the turbo inlet and clamped on. I put a layer of aluminum sound deadiner on the K&N tube to help shield the heat. It worked great till I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and leaned over on it and cracked it. I need to get my torch out and do some plastic welding so I can get it back on.

Also, I just got back from a 400 mile round trip yesterday and didnt notice any drop in mileage. Just a drop in spool time and more smoke.

Without knowing more about it,

If I were you, I would get it off, before you lose your turbo altogether. If you can crack it by leaning on it, it is not going to survive the environment that a prolonged hard pull will create.

Pics would be nice.

It cracked along the molded seam. Any 1/8" thick plastic vs. a 270lb. person is going to loose. lol

I have a really good welder that works for me and we're also looking into a custom aluminum MP. We have the 4" V-band pieces already but stil trying to work out the tubing fit. Eventually maybe I can get a few made that will be a direct LLY swap. Just as a side hobby.
