I did this mod to my intake, and it was really easy to do. I did not find the foam at Lowes, but I did find it at Ace Hardware. Removed the airbox and cut a nice hole in the leading side. Stuffed the foam and it almost looks factory. Had to make a trip of about 200 miles. Averaged about 18.3 the whole trip, according to the little lying computer on the dash. It did up my mileage about 1mpg. Good mod. Thanks for the idea.

One other thing that I did was peel off the aluminum matting that faces the intake, and there is a hole that is covered up that goes down behind the light as well. Just another route for the air to enter.

I never had any issues, but I didn’t open up the cover on the front fender either. IIRC, the early models (LB7) had that open, and GM taped it off in later years. Rain may have been the reason for that change.
I believe you have more of an issue of penetration on the coil stack side of the right headlight than from behind the front airdam, which is where this mod directs the flow from.
